RAWALPINDI: A total of seven people have been taken into police custody during the anti-beggary operation within the limits of the airport police station in Rawalpindi.

An anti-beggary operation has been launched as per the directives of Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha.

Among the seven arrested, four are youngsters and three are transgender.

As many as 44 people have been taken into custody so far. Among them are 29 children under the age of 15, one six-year-old girl, seven men, and seven transgenders.

The operation was carried out in multiple areas, including Murree Road, Mareer, Liaquat Bagh, Commercial Market, Sixth Road, Rabi Centre, Saddar, Peshawar Road, Chur Bazar, Range Road, Qasim Market, and Lal Kurti Bazar.

The children taken into custody are being handed over to the Child Protection Bureau.
