PESHAWAR: “There cannot be any friendship between India and Pakistan as long as there is no just and satisfactory decision about Kashmir,” said Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, addressing one of the largest public meetings ever held in Peshawar today [Sept 28]. … “Every honest man,” added Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, “knows that a large majority of Kashmir Muslims want to accede to Pakistan. It is after such just decision that we can have such friendly relations with each other.”

[Meanwhile, according to news agencies from New York,] A New York businessman, who was a guardian for the late Maharanee of Kapurthala, told [news agencies] that the United States … had referred to the American Embassy in New Delhi his week-old demand for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Maharanee’s sudden death in 1946. Mr Leon Pistol … said that for 30 years he was a guardian of the Czechoslovakian beauty who married the Maharja of Kapurthala in 1944 when she was 32 years old. The Maharanee was found dead at the foot of the historic Qutb Minar in Delhi.
