KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were killed by armed citizens in separate incidents in the metropolis early on Sunday morning, according to police and rescue services.

In the first incident, a suspect was gunned down and another was arrested in wounded condition near Jail Chowrangi on University Road within the remit of the New Town police.

East SSP Irfan Bahadur said that two suspects attempted to snatch valuables from a citizen, who opened fire on them from his licensed pistol. As a result, one suspect was gunned down and his accomplice got injured and arrested.

The SSP said looted valuables were recovered from the suspects.

A Chhipa spokesperson identified the deceased as Zubair Lal, 22. The body and injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

In another incident, a young suspect was shot dead down by a citizen near Ayesha Manzil in Federal B Area.

Gulberg SHO Zahid Lodhi said that two armed pillion riders intercepted a motorcyclist on main Shahrah-i-Pakistan and snatched a cell phone from him. As the robbers attempted to snatch the bike, the robbery victim put up resistance. The robbers opened fire on him which hit his bike’s engine. The citizen retaliated from his licensed pistol and opened fire on fleeing suspects.

He said that the pillion rider suffered two bullet wounds in the neck and back and fell on the road while his accomplice fled. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The SHO said the whole incident was recorded on CCTV cameras and the police had obtained the footage.
