TOBA TEK SINGH: A fire broke out at a grid station near Makkuana on Jaranwala Road in Faisalabad on Monday.

According to Rescue 1122, its five fire tenders controlled the fire.

A spokesperson for the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) said the fire occurred in a 132KVA system, which is operated by the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco).

The fire not only consumed a 40MVA transformer and 17 panels of the Fesco system but also damaged some installations of the NTDC.

A Fesco spokesperson said an inquiry committee was looking into the incident and after dismantling the burnt installations, it would assess the extent of the damage to the grid caused by the fire and investigate the cause.

He said all areas where power supply was suspended due to the fire had been shifted to other nearby lines.

FIRE: An LPG cylinder recanting station caught fire near Jehangirwala Adda in the Dijkot area of Faisalabad due to a cylinder leakage. Rescue 1122 extinguished the fire.

During the incident, a staff member identified as Muhammad Imran sustained burn injuries and was shifted to the DHQ hospital for treatment.

SUICIDE: A middle-aged man took his life on Monday in Gojra’s Chak 367-JB.

The police said Saleem Aslam consumed poison following a dispute with his family members over a financial matter. He was rushed to the Gojra THQ Hospital, where he died.

PROTEST: Scores of shopkeepers from various bazaars and markets staged a protest in Gojra on Monday against the municipal committee.

They protested the significant increase in the rent of shops owned by the committee and the sealing of shops due to non-payment of the revised rent.

They set tyers on fire at the railway level crossing and blocked traffic on various roads.

On the call of Anjuman Tajiran, the protest was called off, and negotiations were underway between municipal committee officials and shopkeepers.

FOOT MARCH: Scores of powerloom workers employed in factories in Gojra and its vicinity initiated a foot march from Gojra to Toba Tek Singh on Monday.

Led by Muhammad Shabbir, they were demanding an increase in their wages in accordance with the government’s notification. Before departing, they announced their intention to stage a sit-in outside the DC office in Toba Tek Singh.
