ISLAMABAD: The police on Tuesday said the Safe City project needed another 2,500 cameras to strengthen surveillance of illegal immigrants in the capital.

According to a press release, officials of the police department told a meeting, held to review criminal activities in the capital, that 96pc cameras of Safe City are operational, while 4pc are out of order. “There is a need of 2,500 more cameras in key areas for surveillance of aliens,” the officials told the meeting.

The capital police chief Dr Akbar Nasir Khan presided over the meeting which was also attended by CPOs operation, headquarters, SSP operation SP Safe City, zonal DPOs and SHOs. During the meeting it was decided to countine the crackdown on the illegal immigrants. Besides, religious and political parties would not be allowed to conduct any illegal activity.

No groups or elements will be allowed to disturb the peace of the citizens. All resources are being used to maintain law and order in the capital. The meeting also reviewed the current crime situation in the capital. The police chief congratulated all the officers for what he claimed reduction in the crime rate in the last nine months.

Due to the effective investigation, there has been a clear reduction in cases and the quality of investigation has improved. The zonal DPOs were instructed to crack down on land mafia, drug peddlers and criminals.

The officers were further directed to identify the criminals in their areas and arrest them.
