SAHIWAL: A man shot dead his mother-in-law in Chak Rang Shah on Tuesday after she refused to send her daughter with him.

The Rang Shah police registered a murder case on the complaint of the deceased’s husband.

Reports said Imran married his paternal cousin Yasmin a few months ago, and due to some domestic issues, Yasmin came to her mother’s house. Imran came to reconcile with his wife, but heated arguments occurred between Imran and his mother-in-law, Parveen Bibi.

He shot and killed Parveen Bibi and then fled.

After the postmortem, the police handed over the body to the family.

CAMPAIGN: A week-long awareness campaign has been initiated by doctors, management, paramedics staff, and civil society at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital to raise awareness about breast cancer.

An awareness walk was organised, led by Dr Muhammad Imran Hasan, the principal of Sahiwal Medical College.

Addressing the audience, the principal said the main reason for breast cancer is the lack of knowledge among women, and with proper knowledge, prevention could be achieved on a mass level.

DHQ: The government of Punjab has upgraded the status of Haji Abdul Qayyum Hospital from a tehsil headquarters hospital to a district headquarter hospital.

The Provincial Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department issued a notification in this regard.

The decision to upgrade the THQ into a DHQ hospital was made in the 25th meeting of the caretaker provincial cabinet on Sept 11.

The divisional headquarters has a DHQ hospital, which was affiliated with the Sahiwal Medical College as a teaching hospital in 2013.
