LOWER DIR: Police here on Wednesday arrested three former lawmakers of Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf after a court cancelled their applications for bail.

The former members of provincial assembly including Malik Shafiullah Khan, Malik Liaquat Ali and Azam Khan were presented before an anti-terrorism court in Timergara and the judge cancelled their applications for bail before arrest in a case regarding May 9 and 10 riots.

They are named in the case under section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act. They were given in the custody of police for two days.

VOTERS: The district election commissioner, Mohammad Iqbal Tanoli, has said Election Commission of Pakistan has extended the deadline for registration, transfer and correction of voters’ record to October 25.

Talking to local journalists at his office in Timergara on Wednesday, he asked people to get themselves registered as voters till October 25. He said that by sending the national identity card number through an SMS to 8300, an individual could confirm the status of his/her vote.

The official said that already registered voters could also verify their details by visiting his office. About the recent delimitation, he said that complaints, objections and appeals could be submitted to ECP Islamabad office till October 27. He said that ECP started preparations for holding free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

He said that people could get information about the recent delimitation along with Form V for mass awareness on its website. He said that ECP would decide about objections and appeals against delimitation from October 28 to November 26 after which the final report would be published.

Meanwhile, a volunteer identified as Bacha Mohammad died of cardiac arrest during an anti-polio campaign here on Wednesday. The volunteer was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Siah village.
