SWABI: Unknown assailants killed a former councillor at the Safdar Chowk on the Swabi-Topi Road here on Wednesday, the police said.

They said Hafeez Khan hailing from Kotha village was on way to Topi Bazaar when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at him at the busy thoroughfare, killing him on the spot.

The deceased belonged to a political family and his wife is a member of the Topi tehsil council.

His relatives brought the body to the main bazaar, where they placed it on the Topi-Tarbela Road and started chanting slogans.

Later, they took the body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

His family said the cause of his killing and identity of the assailants were not known.

They, however, got registered an FIR with the Topi city police station against unidentified attackers.

DSP headquarters Jawad Khan said the police had started a search for the killers.

Meanwhile, a man was killed and two passersby were injured in a firing incident in Salim Khan Bazaar of Swabi tehsil on Wednesday.

Witnesses said assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire, killing a man, Shahzeb, 27, and injuring two others, including a girl.

Bakhtzada, father of the deceased, told the police he was informed that his son had been killed by unknown persons in Salim Khan Bazaar.

He said he didn’t know as to who killed his son.

The city police registered an FIR against unknown persons.
