DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police foiled an attack on the Kulachi police station here on Wednesday, forcing the terrorists to flee.

An official said that eight to 10 armed assailants attacked the police station around 11am. He said that the terrorists fired two rockets and also fired from automatic weapons on the building.

However, he said that as the policemen were already on high alert they retaliated to the attack forcefully, forcing the attackers to flee.

Immediately after the attack, a heavy contingent of police and security forces reached the site and cordoned off the area. No loss of life was reported.

The police also started a search operation in the area to arrest the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the police on Wednesday claimed to have seized non-custom-paid goods worth over Rs1.76 million during checking of vehicles.

An official said that a team of Dera Town police station recovered 40 sewing machines, 24 sacks of plastic bags and eight cartons of blades from a vehicle. He said that the estimated value of the recovered goods was around Rs1.4 million.

Similarly, the official said that a Daraban police station team recovered 272 bundles of cigarettes from a vehicle at the Daraban checkpost. The value of the recovered cigarettes was around Rs330,000.

Later, the NCP items were handed over to the customs authorities.
