SWABI: Nine women primary schoolteachers were suspended over their refusal to perform the anti-polio duty, Dawn learnt here on Friday.
Sources said district education officer, female, Sofia Tabassum issued the suspension orders.
However, the public sector schoolteachers warned if the suspension orders of their colleagues were not revoked, they would stage a sit-in at the Karnal Sher Chowk.
The order says that as per the direction of the deputy commissioner, the teachers are hereby suspended from service for their absence/refusal to perform the polio duty on Oct 2.
Meanwhile, the police on Friday arrested a man for stealing jewellery and cash worth 1.4 million from a house.
The accused turned out to be a close relative of the complainant, district police officer Haroon Rashid Khan said.
He said Syed Wahab had filed a report on Sept 29 in the Utla police station, stating that his family had gone to a relative’s house in connection with a death, when unknown accused had broken locks of his house and stolen gold ornaments and Rs530,000 cash.
DPO Rashid Khan said the accused, Waqar Ahmed, turned out be a nephew of the complainant. He said the stolen jewellery and cash were recovered from him.
