KARACHI: ...Mr Ghulam Mohammad, Finance Minister, called on the nationals of Pakistan to live up to the ideals of the Quaid-i-Azam and consider no sacrifice too great in the service of the state. He urged them to make Pakistan “so strong in every direction that none dare cast covetous eyes on us”. … [He] warned the people against fifth columnists and urged them not to be carried away by rumours. He appealed for public co-operation to root out evils like black-marketing, bribery and nepotism.
[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies,] About 110,000 refugees have by now arrived in Sind from the West Punjab. … With the arrival of more than 50 per cent of the total number earmarked for Sind, plans for ensuring their successful absorption in the province’s economic structure are being steadily pushed ahead. Official sources said … the entire movement of the refugees … is proceeding according to plan.
Brigadier F. H. Stevens, Director General of Movements and Quartering (Refugees), left Karachi on a six-day tour of the interior of Sind to look after the reception and camping arrangements for the incoming refugees.
