KOHAT: Unknown thieves lowered another electricity transformer from a pole in Kot area here on Saturday night and took away its copper coils, plunging the area into pitch darkness.

The electricity supply could not be restored to the area till filing of this report on Monday evening.

The thieves have also stolen copper coils and other equipment from transformers after lowering them from poles in Togh Bala, Sayyab and Gumbat areas.

The residents claimed mostly drug addicts were involved in stealing coils from transformers. They said elders’ committees in Gumbat and Togh Bala had so far handed over 18 drug peddlers to the police.

They said the elders of Gumbat and Togh Bala had also formed committees to patrol the streets during the nights to curb such incidents.

Separately, the cantonment police arrested three Afghan refugees involved in robberies from Naway Kalay area on Monday.

A statement said the Afghans, Nano, Qasim and Ismail, residents of Ublan camp, were planning to commit a robbery.

Meanwhile, the cantonment police also raided a house and recovered stolen mobile phones and gold jewellery. They also arrested the alleged thief, Aqib.

A resident, Laal Mohammad had nominated Aqib for committing theft at his house in Nasratkhel area.

Also on Monday, the Lachi police recovered a woman and arrested her alleged abductor.

SHO Jabir Khan said the woman was kidnapped by Manzoor belonging to Orakzai district two weeks ago as reported by her brother. He said the police recovered the woman from a room, which was locked from outside, during a raid led by DSP Lachi Shaukat Khan.

CONDEMNED: Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen and Shia Ulema Council have demanded of the Islamic states to break their ‘silence’ and support the Palestinians in their struggle to liberate their land from the illegitimate occupation of Israel.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Allama Jehanzeb Ali Jaffri, Maulana Irshad Ali and Syed Mustafa Hussain Tawakli also condemned the western media for covering up the atrocities of the Israeli army against the innocent Palestinians.

They regretted that most Muslim countries had adopted a lenient view against Israel, which was regrettable.
