PESHAWAR: The prisons department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has accorded approval to replacement of the ropes of gallows in fives prisons of the province.
An official on Monday said the process of hanging condemned prisoners in KP jails had been partially suspended for the last four-and-a-half years and no execution had taken place during that period.
He said the ropes of gallows in the prisons of Peshawar, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Haripur and Bannu had become obsolete and needed replacement. The official said the ropes of gallows in these five prisons would be replaced in a phased manner. It is worth mentioning here that there are more than 200 death row prisoners in KP prisons.
