KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead and a policeman wounded in an alleged encounter in Orangi Town on Tuesday.

The Iqbal Market police said that the encounter took place in Salahuddin Town where area people informed a police patrol that two robbers were trying to escape after snatching valuables from a passer-by.

The police chased the suspects and in an ensuing encounter, Constable Mohammed Yasir and a suspect suffered bullet injuries.

The police said that suspect, later identified as Sadiq Hussain, died. The policeman sustained a bullet wound in the foot and his condition was out of danger, they added.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The police said that the Sadiq was a habitual criminal, who had been arrested twice in criminal cases this year.
