LAHORE: Conflicting reports regarding the arrest and escape of former police inspector and ‘encounter specialist’ Abid Boxer were doing the rounds late on Friday.
The Organised Crime Unit (OCU), formerly known as the Crime Investigation Agency, reportedly arrested Mr Boxer at his residence in Model Town for allegedly threatening senior Lahore police officers.
A police officer stated that Boxer was wanted for intimidating senior police officers and added that the police team had also taken the guards of the former police inspector into custody. However, later reports indicated that Boxer had managed to escape from police custody.
Concerns over Boxer’s safety have been raised by his family members following his arrest and the subsequent reports of his “escape” from police custody.
Some reports suggested that senior police officers from the OCU held discussions shortly after the reports of Boxer’s arrest and escape. As of the time of this report at 10pm, the meeting among the senior police officers was still ongoing.
