KOHAT: A young man was shot dead by his maternal uncle in the Tanda Lake area over an honour-related issue here on Friday, the police said.

SHO Saddar police station Shah Doran told Dawn while quoting family sources that the accused took the victim to the Tanda Lake and shot him dead there.

He said the victim’s family had nominated the accused in the murder case.

A Rescue 1122 official said they received a call in their control room that a man had been shot at in the Tanda Lake area, and a medical emergency team was rushed there. He said the rescuers found a body there, and moved it the KDA Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

The victim was identified as a resident of Thall Behzadi area of the Kohat city.

Meanwhile, the Jarma police foiled a bid to smuggle UAE and Saudi currencies to Quetta by arresting a man at the Muslimabad checkpost on the Indus Highway on Friday.

SHO Mohammad Khan leading a team recovered 42,450 UAE Dirhams and 18,800 Saudi Riyals from the man, identified as an Afghan, Mamoor Khan, a resident of one of the refugee camps in Kohat. He said the alleged smuggler was going to Quetta in a passenger coach.

The SHO said the accused had been handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency.

ARRESTED: During the ongoing operations against drug dealers and peddlers, the police arrested eight suppliers and recovered over seven kilogrammes of hashish and ice drug from their possession on Friday.

In a statement, district police officer Farhan Khan said 56 drug sellers had been sent to prison in a week.

A team led by DSP Saddar Yousuf Jan and SHO Shah Doran arrested seven traffickers in different areas and seized one and a half kilogrammes of ice drug and hashish from them. The team also seized a 12-bore repeater, a pistol and hundreds of cartridges from them.

The DPO said a drug dealer, Aamir Saeed belonging to Junglekhel area, was also arrested and 310 grams of ice drug was seized from him.
