ISLAMABAD, Feb 10: The touring Indian cricketers were on Friday impressed by Gen Pervez Musharraf’s cricketing knowledge at a reception hosted by the President.

G.S. Walia, the team’s media manager said that the president not only knew the names of each and every player, he also narrated several incidents occurred during the Test series.

“He mentioned most of the events and was even aware of the kind of pitches prepared for the first two Tests,” Walia said. “He addressed all the players by name which made them very happy.”

Also invited was the Pakistan squad led by Inzamamul Haq. Under Inzamam, Pakistan defeated England 2-0 at home before beating India 1-0 in the Test series.

Musharraf, who is also the Patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) praised both teams for the manner in which the current series had been contested.

The president told the players that victory and defeat were part of the game but progress could be made when a team played like a unit, chairman of PCB Shaharyar M. Khan quoted him as saying.
