SAHIWAL: The Environmental Protection Department imposed Rs10.90 million fine on brick kilns, industrial units and smoke-emitting vehicles for damaging environment during the past seven months in three districts of Sahiwal division.

Data shows there are 795 brick kilns and 195 major industrial units with high emissions.

Though all brick kilns and industrial units have switched over to Zigzag technology and emission control systems but violations area still being observed by the EPD.

It is learnt 135 industrial units were issued anti-smog notices in Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan districts. Ten FIRS were registered against industrial units violating anti-smog warnings.

In the same manner, 78 FIRs were registered and 22 brick kiln industries were sealed over violations.

The EPD Data shows 6,726 vehicles were challaned for high smoke emissions.

Commissioner Shoiab Iqbal told Dawn several measures would be taken to control smog in winter.
