CHITRAL: The education department hasn’t filled the post of the district education officer (female) in Lower Chitral for six months.
The additional charge of the position is held by the DEO (female) of Upper Chitral, officials of the education department told Dawn.
They said it was not possible for a person to take care of the DEO offices in two districts whose headquarters stood around 100km away from each other.
The officials said under the rules, the dual charge of an office could be given to an official for two weeks and that could be extended in an “extraordinary situation” and that, too, just for two weeks.
They said the vacancy of the DEO (female) had badly affected education-related matters in the district.
The officials also complained that there was no progress on the issue of the theft of computers and electronic equipment from a higher secondary school in the city two months ago.
A teacher of a government girls school told Dawn that bifurcation of Chitral district had improved the management of schools due to effective supervision caused by the frequent visits of the DEO.
She, however, said things hadn’t been good for the last six months due to the vacancy of the DEO (female).
PROFILING OF NCP VEHICLES: The profiling of non-custom paid vehicles began in Lower Chitral district the other day.
Assistant commissioner Mohammad Atif Jalib inaugurated the process by pressing a computer button in a function in the office of the excise and taxation department.
He said the profiling was meant to maintain records of NCP vehicles and check their use in illegal and terrorist activities.
“This exercise will save the owners of such vehicles from troubles,” he said.
Excise and taxation inspector Ubaidur Rehman said the campaign would last until Dec 31 and would get under way in Upper Chitral district afterward.
