ZAKAT COLLECTION: The Interna- tional Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged Pakistan to collect taxes from the rich and provide relief to the poor. This statement is in line with the Islamic principle of Zakat. Unfortunately, Zakat is not collected and distributed fairly in the country. If the system could some- how be streamlined, it can make a subs- tantial contribution to social uplift plans.

INFLATION ADJUSTMENT: If we compare the employees of the private sector with their counterparts in the public sector, there is no doubt that the former set of employees are more efficient, hardworking, dedicated, sincere and professional. There is also no doubt that the performance-salary ratio of the latter is disproportionately high. Only a few private-sector companies are providing support to their employees in terms of periodic adjustment of their salaries in relation to the prevailing hyperinflation. The rest of the owners in the private sector should seriously consider such adjustments.

EXTENDED ROUTES: The People’s Bus Service is a breath of fresh air for the citizens of Karachi. Hundreds of people use it for their daily commute, which is great. Unfortunately, there is no such service designated for certain routes. If Route R3, which ends at Nasir Jump, is extended up to Korangi No. 6 via Chakra Goth, Creek Hospital and Coast Guards Chowrangi, a lot of people will be facilitated. Similarly, Route R10 may be extended from Ibrahim Hyderi to Ghous Pak Road, 100 Quarters and Korangi.

NEW ROUTE: The People’s Bus Service is an effective means of transport on different routes in Karachi and is used by thousands of commuters every day. There is a need for initiating a new route from Yousuf Goth Terminal to Lea Market to facilitate the commute of many.
