ISLAMABAD: Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister (PSPM), Dr Syed Tauqir Shah, has resigned from his post to join the World Bank as its executive director from Nov 1.
The Establishment Division said Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has accepted Dr Shah’s resignation. “The Prime Minister has been pleased to accept resignation tendered by Dr Syed Tauqir Shah (PAS/BS-22/Retired) from the post of Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister with effect from October 31, 2023,” the notification said.
Mr Kakar also waived the mandatory condition of serving a month’s notice before relinquishing the office as the notification further states that the prime minister has relaxed “the condition of notice for a period of one month”.
Mr Shah has been made the executive director of the World Bank for four years and will replace Naveed Kamran Baloch.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has been examining the appointment of Dr Shah and it already issued notices to the federal government earlier this week.
The counsel in this matter apprised the court that Mr Shah has been appointed the executive director of the World Bank allegedly against merit and due process of law because of being the blue-eyed boy of the former prime minister.
