LENGTHY BREAKS

LENGTHY BREAKS: As per the rules of Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra), an advertisement break on a television channel shall not exceed three minutes. However, recently the advertisement break during a famous talk show on a news channel lasted 27 minutes. Such lengthy commercial breaks are torturous to the viewers, and sheer waste of their time.

ABANDONED LIBRARY: The municipal library in Qambar-Shahdadkot has been in a state of utter neglect for over a year. There is no water facility on the premises, and the standby power supply system is no more functional. The fans and computers do not work properly. The chairs are broken, and the washrooms are simply unusable. Students from far and wide come to the library to prepare for the various exams, but do not return the following day for obvious reasons. The matter should be sorted out.

ADMISSION LOOPHOLES: The admission process at Punjab University is exhausting. I recently submitted my sister’s registration fee for the BS programme online, but the university was unable to verify it. Then, entry test marks of my sister did not show in the merit list. I had to visit the campus twice to have the matter sorted out. Later, when I went there for a fee challan, the portal was not functioning. Punjab University is one of the leading universities of Pakistan, and people expect good management.

FAULTY ESCALATORS: Just a year after the inauguration of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service in Karachi, people have started complaining about faulty escalators at two of its main stations. The escalators have been closed for public. The faulty escalators must be repaired and made functional without any delay, as it affects the ability of the elderly to use the transport service.
