SWABI: The Swabi police arrested three robbers, including their ringleader, here on Wednesday.

District police officer Abdur Rashid said that looted money, mobile phones, motorcycles and two pistols used in the incidents were recovered from them.

He said arrest of the robbers was a challenge for the police. He said the robbers used to deprive people of money, mobile phones and motorcycles at gunpoint.

SHO Zaida police station Farooq Khan said robbers were identified as Hazrat Khan, the gang leader, Rashid Khan and Hayan Khan.

He said the men confessed to their involvement in several robberies. He said the police recovered Rs350,000 cash, five motorcycles, 11 mobile phones, and two pistols from their possession.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami and Qaumi Watan Party on Wednesday said delay in announcement of the election date had ‘dampened’ the enthusiasm of political workers.

Addressing a gathering in Jamalabad area here, Masood Jabar, QWP former provincial deputy general secretary, asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to end the confusion surrounding the holding of polls by announcing a date as soon as possible.

“We could not launch the election campaign due to the prevailing uncertain situation in the country, hoping the election date would be announced soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mehmoodul Hassan, Jamaat’s acting chief for Swabi, while addressing a separate gathering of workers, said leaders of all political parties were eagerly waiting for the ECP to announce a poll date.

“More delay in election date will give birth to more confusion,” he said.
