ISLAMABAD: Pakistan won the poomsae event of the Fifth Combaxx Asian Taekwondo Open Championship by claiming a total of 14 gold, 11 silver and 22 bronze medals here at Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia finished second with one gold, a silver and two bronze medals, while Nepal took one gold to finish third ahead of a team of World Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation.

Pakistan’s Ameer Hamza took first position with 6.73 points in the men’s over-18 individual freestyle event with compatriot Zymal Naqvi (4.56) taking the women’s honours.

Ameer combined with Naila to win the pairs’ freestyle event while Pakistan also won gold in the mixed teams event.Saudi Arabia’s lone gold came through Ali Adnan, who won the men’s under-50 freestyle event with a score of 7.16 while Pakistan’s Sana Sabir was the women’s winner after posting a score of 6.23.
