TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of lawyers gathered for a sit-in outside the office of the Faisalabad city police officer on Friday, condemning an alleged police raid at the residence of lawyer Mian Naseer Hussain.
During the raid, the police arrested his sister-in-law without any case against her, reportedly in violation of privacy.
Faisalabad District Bar Association (DBA) President Rana Shahid Munir Manj and General Secretary Rana Babar Khan told reporters that a Batala Colony police team, led by DSP Haji Nasir Abbas, forcibly entered the lawyer’s house to arrest a relative wanted in a murder case.
The lawyers claimed that the police behaved inappropriately with women and detained the lawyer’s brother’s wife. Following discussions with police officials, they received assurances of the woman’s release.
ACCIDENT: An accident near Bijli Ghar bus stop on Jaranwala Road in Faisalabad left at least 10 passengers injured on Friday.
According to Rescue 1122, the accident occurred when one of the van’s tyres burst and the van hit the divider.
Three people received first aid from rescuers, while seven seriously wounded passengers were shifted to the DHQ hospital.
They were identified as Ayub, Talal, Nasir, Rania Bibi, Khadija
Bibi, Abdul Sattar and Amjad.
FIRE: A fire erupted in an oil tanker containing 40,000 litres of petrol in Faisalabad, near the Jandanwali railway level crossing on Chak Jhumra Road on Friday. The fire was brought under control by five Rescue 1122 fire tenders.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said that the oil tanker was parked near an oil depot where four other tankers were also located. The quick response prevented the fire from spreading to the other tankers and the depot.
Also, a fire broke out at AR Textil Mills on Satiana Road near Chak 77 GB in Faisalabad, resulting in the destruction of cotton bales worth millions.
Rescue 1122 officials attributed the fire to an electric short circuit.
