DEADLINE EXTENSION

Published November 4, 2023

DEADLINE EXTENSION: The deadline for illegal Afghan refugees has expired. Many of them have voluntarily returned to their country, and many more want to. As such, the deadline for voluntary repatriation should be extended to facilitate the peaceful process. It is in the best interest of justice that we should do everything to avoid using any force.

DEADLY ROAD: Many people have died and many more have been injured in tragic accidents on the highway linking Thatta and Hyderabad. There is only one rural health centre across the stretch of the highway, and even that is suffering from a lack of first aid and ambulance facilities. The victims have to be transported in police vans whenever they are available. The local administration should expand this road, install solar lights, and provide first aid and ambulance services at the local health centre.

SAVING A COLLEGE: Thousands of people have over the years been students of the famed Islamia College in Sukkur, an old and respected seat of learning. The builder mafia is trying to capture some part of the college land for building a commercial plaza there. The mafia had also tried to occupy the Mir Masoom Shah Library, but could not succeed due to the protest demonstrations held by the area people. The people of Sukkur should know who is supporting them and why. Moreover, the district administration and judiciary should step in to keep the mafia at bay.

ODD TIMINGS: The short library timings of Sindh University Jamshoro are causing trouble to the students. Morning and evening students are unable to study properly, especially those who come to this public-sector university from distant areas. The university administration should extend the timings.
