PESHAWAR: Speakers at a literary event advised students to equip themselves with advanced methods to get access to modern digital world and also keep themselves aware of local traditions and social values.

They said that students should come up with fresh vision and positive approach to play an effective role in development of society in line with local traditions and values. They said that students should also try to bring a good name to parents and the country at large.

The annual Pashto poetry recitation session was arranged at Government Degree College Hayatabad here on Saturday under the auspices of Khegarra Da Watan Bar Tehkal, a charity-cum-literary organisation. Noted Pashto poets from parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, students and teachers attended the event.

Prof Abaseen Yousafzai chaired the event while Tariq Khalil was guest of honour on the occasion. Poets recited poetic pieces filled with romance, mutual respect and peace for the entire world.

Prof Munawar Alam Khattak, the principal of the college, on the occasion said that students should utilise their talent and strength to face future challenges. He said that they should try to take advantage of the modern digital tools in their best interest.

“Students have the potential to equip themselves with innovative ways and means towards building better future careers and face tough times ahead. Knowing about our own traditions and social norms will help young graduates to build a broad worldview,” he said.

Prof Abaseen Yousafzai said that students were required to participate in such literary activities on the campus alongside their academic assignments and sports. He said that students could use social media in a positive manner.

“Living in a global village, students could make great impact on the world through modern means of fast communication. They could paint the image of Pashtuns in a desirable shape,” he said.

Tariq Khalil in his address said that Khegarra Da Watan organisation had been working for the welfare of people and promotion of literary and cultural activities. He said that students should know about services of local organisations.

Ajmal Khalil, another active member of Khegarra Da Watan, presented message of Arbab Daud Khan, chief of the organisation.

Noted poets including Arbab Altaf, Kamran Talish Marwat, Hamraz Afridi and Bakhtnam Khalil also presented their poetic pieces and received great applause from audience.

Later, Shahid Ali Khail, chief monitor of the college, presented copies of the college literary magazines to the guest poets.
