BAHAWALPUR: A large number of people thronged the Dring stadium on Sunday to witness the Rustam-i-Bahawalpur dangal (wrestling contest) organised by the divisional administration.

Ali Nawaz Lar was declared the winner and Rustam-i-Bahawalpur for defeating Hameed Meedoo (runner-up). The winner received the traditional ‘Gurz’ along with a cash prize of Rs100,000 while the runner-up got Rs50,000 prize. Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa gave away the prizes.

It may be recalled that local people were fond of Kushti (Indian wrestling) and such events of national and provincial levels were organized attracting a large crowd here in the past. Divisional Commissioner Dr Ehtsham Anwar Mahaar has announced its revival and his announcement may give the sport a new life in all the three districts.
