SWABI: The Women University Swabi (WUS) has been without a regular vice-chancellor since March this year as the provincial government assigned the additional charge to the VC Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, on Monday, sources in the varsity told Dawn on Tuesday.

They said the last regular VC was Prof Shahana Urooj Kazmi, who had retired on March 6.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor in his capacity as the chancellor of WUS has assigned the additional charge of the post of vice-chancellor, Women University Swabi, to VC Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, Prof Zahoorul Haq. He will hold the office till the appointment of regular VC, according to a notification issued by the higher education department secretary on Monday.

VC University of Swabi Prof Nasir Jamal Khattak was holding the additional charge of VC of the women varsity till recently.

Since its establishment in 2016, only Prof Khanzadi Fatima Khattak and Prof Urooj Kazmi have served WUS as regular VCs.

GETS BAIL: Adnan Khan, a brother of former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, secured bail-before-arrest from a local court on Tuesday.

Aftab Ali Khan, a local, had submitted an application with the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, demanding action against Mr Adnan for having allegedly started a campaign against the state institutions on social media following arrest of his brother, Asad Qaisar in Islamabad on Friday.

Later, the Swabi city police station registered an FIR against Mr Adnan under different sections of Pakistan Penal Code.

Meanwhile, an old enmity claimed life of a youngster here on Tuesday, the police said.

Namir Khan, a resident of Tarakai village, told the Kalu Khan police station that Mohammad Afsar and Ziyad Khan shot dead his brother, Fazal Sher in Dagai village on Monday night. The complainant said his brother was coming from the Gohati Afghan refugee camp on a motorcycle.
