DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Amid a renewed wave of assaults targeting security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — particularly D.I. Khan — and Balochistan, two police personnel were martyred and three others sustained injuries when unidentified armed men attacked the camp office of a private oil and gas company in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident took place in Darazinda area and the attackers targeted the policemen on duty there, DSP Headquarters Asghar Ali Shah confirmed to Dawn.

The fresh attack comes on the day when an army officer, who had embraced martyrdom along with three troops in Tirah Valley while fighting with terrorists, was buried with full military honours in Islamabad.

In the latest attack, policemen Rehmat Elahi and Mohammad Arif were martyred while three other policemen, Alamsher, Fazalur Rehman and Attaur Rehman were injured.

The injured policemen were taken to District Headquarters Hospital of Dera Ismail Khan.

After receiving the information about the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the area and started a search operation in the locality.

Funeral prayers for the two cops were offered at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines with official protocol and honours on Tuesday.

Regional Police Officer Nasir Mehmood Satti, District Police Officer Abdul Rauf Babar Qaisrani, and other senior police officers attended the funeral. Later, a police squad presented a guard of honour to the martyrs.
