SIALKOT, Feb 14: The Punjab chief minister has approved construction of a district jail in Narowal and the provincial government has released a grant of Rs18.063 million for acquiring land for the purpose.
District nazim Akmal Cheema told newsmen on Tuesday 50 acres would be acquired soon and work on the project started in July.
Narowal was given the status of a district in 1990. Since then there is no separate jail and the prisoners are being kept in the Sialkot jail. After the establishment of a jail in Narowal, all prisoners belonging to the district will be shifted there.
The nazim said the chief minister had also approved a project for establishing an overhead bridge in Sialkot city and a small-sized bridge over Nullah Aik.
He said the overhead bridge would be constructed on main Sialkot-Pasrur Road near the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park, and the small bridge over Nullah Aik near Naikpura by demolishing the existing one. He said the constriction of these bridges would help solve the traffic problem in these areas.
