CHAMAN SECURITY: Chaman is a city on the border separating Pakistan and Afghanistan. It generates more revenue than Torkham, Angoor Ada, and Kharlanchi . However, the government does not provide proper security arrangements to local traders. Trucks are often looted on their way to the city. Drug traffickers have gained a foothold in the area, and even security forces are attacked. The provincial government should control the deteriorating security.

FREE SUPPLIES: This refers to the report “Lachi people allowed to use ‘free’ gas” (Oct 2). The people of Lachi had been stealing gas from the main pipeline supplying gas to Hangu. When asked to remove the pipeline through which the gas was being stolen, the area people refused, arguing that since the gas was being produced in their area, they should not have to pay for it. The relevant authorities agreed to the arrangement. I suggest that natural gas distribution companies should refund all the money they have taken in the past from the residents of the places where natural gas is being produced.

CULTURE OF BRIBERY: The menace of bribery is deeply rooted in the district account offices of Sindh government. Employees after their retirement come for the commutation of their pensions as well as release of gratuity and provident funds, but no file moves till the pensioner greases the right palms with the right amount of money. The office of the provincial accountant-general should look into the prevailing state of affairs.

REVIVING TOURISM: Tourism happens to be one of the main reasons behind the flourishing economy of most Muslim countries, like Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, and many others. We need to think about it and do something in this regard.
