BAJAUR: A trader was killed after unknown assailants opened fire at him in Inayat Kallay Bazaar here on Thursday, the residents and Rescue 1122 officials said.

They said that Ikram Khan was heading towards a mosque located on the bypass road for offering afternoon prayers when unknown attackers started firing at him.

They said that the 40-year-old was seriously wounded in the attack and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar. However, according to Rescue 1122, the man, who received multiple bullets, couldn’t survive.

The deceased, who was running an arms outlet in the Inayat Kallay Bazaar, was the son of former president of traders’ association late Haji Ashraf Khan.

The residents said the attackers managed to escape from the scene. No one claimed responsibility of the attack. This was the fifth such attack in the district over the past few weeks.

Meanwhile, a senior police official told Dawn that they had started efforts to arrest those involved in the incident.

He said a team of police personnel stationed in the bazaar also visited the crime scene to collect evidence and obtain the statements of witnesses.

Separately, teacher of a government school died in a road accident in Toorgondai area, rescue officials and residents said on Thursday.

They said Abdul Ghani was going to his home when the vehicle in which he was travelling overturned after hitting a roadside tree.

They said the 55-year-old, who was also the founding member of Bajaur Insaf Teachers Forum, was critically injured and died while being shifted to hospital.

Also in the day, three persons were injured after two motorcycles collided on the Khar-Munda Road near Khar town on Thursday.

According to a rescue statement, the injured, Luqman Khan, 19, Zabihullah, 22, and Suliman Khan, 18, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar.
