RAWALPINDI: The Chaklala Cantonment dispensary was upgraded at a cost of Rs100 million and opened after being renamed as the Chaklala Cantonment Medical Centre on Friday.

The centre at Dheri Hassanabad has now facilities for the treatment of gynae, dental, medical and other ailments. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman inaugurated the facility.

A special hybrid model of solar system has been installed in the medical centre with the capacity to produce 10 KW electricity to run its day-to-day affairs.

The dispensary was upgraded in just two months. Now the expecting mothers of the area will get medical facilities at their doorsteps and will not have to go to other hospitals.

A senior official of CCB told Dawn that the centre spreads over nine kanals. The old dispensary was upgraded under a grant-in-aid by Punjab government.

He said the centre has the facility of specialist doctors for gynae, eye, dental, peads and general outdoor patients. It also has X-ray, ultrasound and other facilities. A laboratory and a pharmacy have also been established at the centre.

He said more departments would be set up after getting land in coming days.

“The services of five specialists have been hired for the new medical centre while it will be run by a medical superintendent and five nurses,” he said.

CCB elected member Raja Irfan Imtiaz told Dawn that the dispensary was turned into a state-of-the art centre to reduce the patient load in other government hospitals.

He said the special grant was provided to the CCB by the Punjab government to improve the condition of the dispensary.
