LARKANA: Provincial Election Commissioner (Sindh) Aijaz Anwar Chauhan has said that all participants in the upcoming general election will be treated even-handedly and electoral code of conduct will be fully enforced because no one is above the law.

Mr Chauhan said at a meeting with Larkana Commissioner Abdul Waheed Shaikh, DIG Nasir Aftab, deputy commissioners and SSP’s of Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot, and heads of the departments concerned at the commissioner’s office here on Friday that the objective behind the huddle was to evaluate coordination among different departments in preparation for holding elections in a hassle-free and peaceful atmosphere.

The process, he said, would be made so transparent that no player would find anything to object. “I am here to take stock of the arrangements so far made for the elections to be held on Feb 8,” he said.

He said that ECP would step up efforts for the availability of required funds for the purpose. Under its plan, CCTV cameras would be installed at polling stations, election material would be transported to divisional headquarters and efforts would be made in the light of the instructions of Chief Election Commissioner to fully implement the code of conduct, he said.

He urged the officers to prepare effective and transport plan for the polls day and said the ECP would shortly begin training of polling staff in the province.

He asked the officers concerned to visit the polling stations a couple of days prior to the scheduled date of election.

The commissioner assured the ECP of streamlining all the arrangements and said the missing facilities if any at the polling stations would be updated in time.

Regional Election Commissioner Abdul Rehman Arain briefed the meeting about the arrangements and the plan while the DC’s and SSP’s, who participated in the meeting video link, shared security plans for their districts.
