Punjab prioritises quality education: secretary

TAXILA: Special Secretary for the School Education Department Punjab Kulsoom Saqib on Saturday said quality education was the top priority of the Punjab government and to achieve this goal, multiple initiatives have been taken.

She was visiting Government Pilot Secondary School Attock and Government Girls High School People’s Colony Attock.

Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza was also present on the occasion.

She said the government had outlined its framework for school education and has taken several initiatives. She said that these initiatives aimed at improving teaching practices, ensuring inclusive access, and strengthening governance under Punjab’s comprehensive education sector plan.

“Improving teaching and learning practices, ensuring access to education for children from pre-primary to secondary levels, promoting quality education in a safe and inclusive environment, and strengthening governance in the education sector are core areas of this plan,” she added.

She visited IT labs of various schools and lauded the “learn and earn” initiative of the district administration Attock under which IT labs were established in schools across the district so that they earn through social media after imparting training at these labs.

Briefing the special secretary, Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza said more than 50 IT labs in government schools in Attock district had been upgraded at a cost of around Rs250 million, which is a unique initiative in the history of the district.

He also informed the secretary that the teachers who received training under the ‘Learn and Learn programme’ are imparting IT education to 480 students in 24 different boys and girls government schools across the district on a professional basis.

“Male and female students can follow the path of economic self-sufficiency through freelancing, graphic designing and other related courses,” he added.
