SUKKUR: A grand Jirga (tribal court) presided over by Sardar Ahmed Ali Bangwar in Mohammad Hassan Bangwar village, Kandhkot, on Saturday evening imposed a fine of Rs13million on a family after finding some of its members guilty of being involved in a murder.

According to the bereaved family, a group of nine people, some of them belonging to the family of Rasool Bakhsh Bangwar, had intercepted Murad Ali Bangwar and tried to snatch the motorcycle he was riding in Kandhkot some two months back. Upon resistance, one of the suspects shot him dead and took away the two-wheeler, the bereaved family told the Jirga.

Sardar Bangwar, heard representatives of both sides and after consulting several arbitrators in the matter, gave its ruling in favour of the aggrieved side.

The head of Rasool Bakhsh Bangwar family was ordered to pay a fine/compensation of Rs13m to the aggrieved side.

The guilty side requested some relief on which the aggrieved side agreed to waive off Rs700,000 of the fine amount.

Accepting the ruling, the guilty side deposited Rs500,000 with the Jirga on the spot and undertook to pay off the remaining amount in three instalments.

The robbery and murder case was lodged against seven nominated and two unknown suspects at the B-Section police station of Kandhkot by the bereaved family but police could not arrest any of them, making the family to take their case to the Jirga.
