LAHORE: The police on Tuesday submitted challan (investigation report) before an anti-terrorism court against PTI-Punjab President Dr Yasmin Rashid and others in a case of delivering objectionable speeches and violence at Sherpao bridge during the May 9 riots.
Earlier, the police presented Ms Rashid and other suspects before the court on expiry of their judicial remand in multiple cases of May 9.
Ms Rashid requested the court for a speedy trial of the cases saying she and other leaders of the PTI were supposed to contest the general elections announced for Feb 8.
The PTI leaders she referred to are Senator Ijaz Chaudhry, former provincial minister Mian Mahmoodur Rashid and former governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, who are also facing trials in the May 9 cases.
Ms Rashid said she and 14 other women had been in jail for the last six months.
“We have faith in the courts, justice should be served to us,” she told the court.
Ms Rashid said she had been arrested in 13 cases lodged in different districts, including Mianwali, Kasur and Faisalabad.
Judge Arshad Javed observed that trial in many cases had been commenced following submission of challans. He said the court would ensure speedy trials in the cases.
The judge extended the judicial remand of Ms Rashid and others till Nov 17 in two cases. He summoned Ms Rashid, Rana Tanvir, Riaz Hussain and Zias Khan in the Sherpao bridge case on Nov 24.
Sarwar Road police filed a 280-page challan and a list of 45 prosecution witnesses in the case.
Separately, an anti-terrorism court extended physical remand of PTI social media activist Sanam Javed for three days in a case of attacking police outside Zaman Park residence of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Judge Abher Gul Khan directed the police to produce the activist again on Nov 17.
Racecourse police arrested the activist in the case after she was supposed to be released following her bail in three previous cases relating to the May 9 riots including attack on the corps commander house and the party office of the PML-N in Model Town.
The court also extended judicial remand of fashion designer Khadija Shah, activist Tayyaba Ambreen Raja, former MNAs Rubina Jamil and Alia Hamza in the Jinnah House attack case.
