DC Comics announces its new line of compact comics

DC Comics announced its new line of compact graphic novels that allows fans to read some of their favourite comics wherever and whenever they’d like.

DC Compact Comics includes 5.5“ x 8.5“ graphic novel versions of several fan-favourite comics, such as Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen and All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. The aforementioned Watchmen and All-Star Superman will be the first to go on sale in June 2024. DC’s SVP & General Manager, Anne DePies, expressed her excitement for the launch of this upcoming project. “The DC Compact Comics price and sizing is perfect for readers of prose and manga looking to pick up a new-reader-friendly storyline in a self-contained full colour graphic novel,” she said.

Missy Elliott, first woman rapper in Rock Hall of Fame

Missy Elliott made history as the first woman rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Grammy winner closed the ceremony with a powerful performance, featuring hits like “Get Ur Freak On” and “Lose Control.”

Queen Latifah presented the honour, describing Elliott as an ‘avant-garde’ trailblazer. The emotional rapper shared her gratitude, noting her mum’s first-time attendance due to her desire to keep shows family-friendly. The diverse class of 2023 inductees also includes Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Kate Bush, George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, the Spinners, and Bernie Taupin. The event was streamed live for the first time. A prime-time special airs on ABC on January 1 and on Hulu and Disney+ on January 2.

Elon Musk biopic in development at A24

Film production company A24 has emerged victorious in a competitive bidding war for the rights to Walter Isaacson’s authorised biography of Elon Musk. The biopic, set to be directed by Darren Aronofsky, will delve into the life of the SpaceX founder and former Tesla chairman, Elon Musk.

Aronofsky is known for films like Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, and previously collaborated with A24 on The Whale. Musk expressed his approval of the choice, stating, “Glad Darren is doing it. He is one of the best.”
