SUKKUR, Feb 17: Acting on some information provided by the Karachi police, the Sukkur police arrested a Bahawalpur police team on Thursday night, locked them up and released them on Friday evening after verifying facts.

It is learnt that the Baha-walpur police had arrested grain dealer Khalid Shaikh from Karachi as a result of a row with an influential person of Bahawal-pur.

Mr Shaikh was being taken to Bahawalpur when the Karachi police informed the Sukkur police that 18 people in police uniform have kidnapped a trader identified as Khalid Shaikh.

The Sukkur police posted pickets at the exit points of the city and arrested the Bahawalpur police team and recovered Khalid Shaikh from their custody and passed on the information to Karachi police.

In this connections facts collected by Dawn revealed that Khalid Shaikh failed to honour a commitment to return Rs182,000 to the influential man of Bahawalpur from whom he had purchased wheat.

The man registered an FIR in Bahawalpur, after which the Bahawalpur police led by the TPO Khawar Hussain went to Karachi and arrested Khalid Shaikh from his factory premises.

In the meantime, relatives informed the DIG operation, Karachi, that Khalid Shaikh had been kidnapped by 18 men.

An FIR was registered on the directives of the DIG, and Karachi police passed the message to all the districts headquarters.

On Thursay night, Jhangro police arrested the 18 member team of the Bahawalpur police from near Jhangro, and locked them up in the A-section police station. During investigation it was revealed that the Bahawalpur police had arrested Khalid Shaikh from his factory without informing the Karachi police and were on way to Bahawalpur, when Sukkur police arrested them.
