KARACHI: Bohra community leader Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin inaugurated a state-of-the-art facility for law students on Monday on Karachi University (KU) campus at a ceremony attended by top government officials, dignitaries and members of the community.

Spread over 45,000 square feet, the new spacious premises of the School of Law features Islamic ethos of positive change through education. Its large capacity would allow a greater number of graduate and postgraduate students to pursue multiple programmes.

“This is a valuable gift for the students of Karachi and the entire nation of Pakistan,” caretaker Chief Minister Sindh retired Justice Maqbool Baqar said, adding that social services offered by the Dawoodi Bohra community extended beyond borders and nationalities, dedicated solely to human development.

“This state-of-the-art facility not only symbolises a commitment to academic excellence but also as a catalyst for intellectual growth, societal progress, and continuous harmonious coexistence of tradition and contemporary values in the landscape of Pakistani education,” he said.

In his remarks, Sindh Governor and KU Chancellor Kamran Tessori mentioned that the Bohra community had continued its support to Pakistan despite the country’s challenging situation.

He appreciated the active participation of the community in the welfare works and lauded their role in increasing the national tax network.

On behalf of the KU, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi expressed gratitude to Syedna Saifuddin, while highlighting his multifaceted contributions to the field of education.

He noted that the the Bohra community, under the leadership of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin and his predecessors, continued to play a pivotal role in elevating the standards of education and research in the country.

“I thank Syedna for his unwavering commitment to education which has been a guiding force for our university,” he said, adding that the School of Law building followed the esteemed legacy of Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin, who had dedicated a building to KU’s department of genetics in 2004.

He shared that with more than 800 enrolled students, KU’s School of Law had produced several leading lawmakers and officials in the past.

The university had presented an honorary doctorate to Dr Syedna Saifuddin in 2015 and he continued to advance educational initiatives that aligned with the evolving needs of society, he said.

The attendees included former chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and provincial secretary boards and universities Noor Ahmed Samoo.
