LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Monday extended the interim pre-arrest bail of the father of an underage driver who killed six of a family in a deadly car accident in Phase VII of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

The suspect, Shafqat Ali, appeared before the court on expiry of his bail.

The investigating officer told the court that the suspect had joined the investigation.

He said the suspect, a property dealer, admitted that the ownership of the car used by his teenage son Afnan Shafqat in the accident.

A lawyer filed his power of attorney on behalf of the complainant of the case.

Judge Abher Gul Khan extended the pre-arrest bail of the suspect till Dec 4.

Rafaqat Ali, the complainant, lost his wife Rukhsana Bibi (45), son Husnain (25), daughter-in-law Ayesha (23), son-in-law Sajjad (30), four-month-old grandson Huzaifa, and granddaughter Anaya (4) in the accident.

The underage driver had hit the car of the victim’s family.

BAIL: A sessions court on Monday granted interim pre-arrest bail to a suspect in a murder case of a female medical student.

The suspect, Abdul Rehman, appeared before the court along with his lawyer.

The lawyer stated that the police added the offence of murder under section 302 of the PPC in the FIR. He said the suspect wanted to join the investigation to prove his innocence.

The court allowed the bail till Nov 28 and directed the suspect to join the police investigation.

The complainant alleged Rehman, the underage driver, and other suspects had harassed the women members of his family when they were on their way.

Later, Rehman and his accomplices opened indiscriminate fire on the car of the victim.

Tazin Khan, the medical student, received bullets in her abdomen and succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital in life-threatening condition while the attackers fled the scene.

The victim girl had come to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia for her medical education.
