LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday assured the Lahore High Court that the image of the caretaker chief minister would not be used for the advertisement campaigns of development projects.
Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad was hearing a petition challenging the actions taken to promote caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on the construction of flyovers and underpasses in the city.
At the last hearing, the judge had expressed concern over the spending from the public exchequer on advertisement campaigns featuring the image of the caretaker CM and sought a reply from the government.
On Wednesday, an additional advocate general appeared before the court and undertook that the image of the caretaker CM would not be used for any kind of official campaign.
In light of the government’s undertaking, Justice Ahmad disposed of the petition with a warning of strict action if such a practice is repeated in future.
Earlier, the judge observed that the money collected as taxes from the public should not be misused. He declared that those who promoted themselves with the public money would be held accountable.
A citizen, Hafiz Israrul Haq, had filed the petition.
