LAKKI MARWAT: A policeman was killed and another critically injured in separate attacks in Bannu on Wednesday.

The fresh attacks took place 24 hours after a cop escorting a polio team was shot at and injured by armed motorcyclists in Lalozai area of the district.

A police official said Mohammad Ashraf, a Frontier Reserve Police head constable, was on way to the place of his deployment for polio duty when miscreants opened fire at him.

He said the cop came under attack in Sabukhel locality, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, wherefrom he was referred to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, in precarious condition, the official said.

Later, an official at LRH told Dawn that the injured cop had expired.

About four hours after the incident, a van of Wazir police station came under attack on Talgi Road, leaving a cop, Hizbullah, 28, a resident of Bandar Kallay, injured. He was taken to DHQ Hospital.

The official said the police party was on patrol duty on a rural road as part of security measures for the polio drive when miscreants hiding in the mountains attacked them.

He said condition of the injured was stated to be stable.
