LARKANA: All Pakis-tan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union’s central president Abdul Latif Niza-mani said on Wednesday that workers were being dislocated on a massive scale in power utilities throughout the country on the pretext of ‘transfers’, which had created unrest among low-paid employees.

Nizamani told a press conference held at Labour Hall that in the name of ‘transfers’, Sindh was targeted and under lame excuses huge transfers to very long distances were being made.

A worker on the verge of retirement from Dadu was transferred to Shor, the borderline area in the Thar desert, he said, pointing out that it was just the tip of an iceberg. Such transfers were numerous, he said.

Instead of focusing on the genuine issues of power generation and updating the transmission system to fix the losses, the ministry had unfortunately found solution in making huge transfers, which was not the way to deal with the situation, he said.

The reason behind the power theft, according to him, was 90 accords signed with the Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Those pacts were the basic cause of ruining the country’s economy, he said.
