Judo: Wapda give Railways tough fight

LAHORE, Feb 18: Defending champions Railways faced a good fight from Wapda, who are appearing for the first time, as both were joint leaders with 14 points each on the first day of 2nd national Women judo championship on Saturday.

Four finals were held and both Railways and Wapda grabbed two gold medals and one silver and bronze each.

Wapda snatched a gold medal through Farhat in the 40kgs class and Sonim, who bagged in the 48kgs class. Shakeela in 44kgs and Bashiran in Open weight category earned victory for Railways.

Besides, Railways and Wapda other teams participating are Army, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

The finals in 52, 57, 63 and 70kgs classes will be held on Sunday, the last day of two-day event.

Results:

40kgs: Farhat (Wapda), Rashida (Army), Saima (Railways)-Wajeeha (Balochistan).

44kgs: Shakila (Railways), Shehla (Army), Mariyum (Wapda)-Rahet (Punjab).

48kgs: Sonim (Wapda), Humaira (Railways), Ansa (Army)-Rabia (Punjab).

Open weight: Bashiran (Railways), Ambreen (Wapda), Najma (Sindh)-Fazeelat (Army).
