PESHAWAR: The leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have asked workers to step up their efforts to ensure success of party’s candidate in the upcoming general elections in the province.

Addressing different functions here on Thursday in connection with the 56th foundation day of PPP, they pledged to fulfil the mission of the founder of the party for welfare of the poor.

In Peshawar, a cake-cutting ceremony was also arranged on the occasion at provincial secretariat of the party that was attended by former members of Peoples Students Federation and PPP workers from different areas of the provincial metropolis.

Some of the senior activists of PPP including Engineer Ghani Gul, Nawab Khattak, Comrade Anwarzeb, Farzand Ali Khan and others paid tributes to the party leadership and appreciated the struggle of the ideological workers for strengthening of democracy in the country.

They said that PPP workers would complete the unfinished mission of the party’s founding chairman Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. They hoped that PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would lead the party with a vigour to restore confidence of workers.

According to Tariq Raheem, a member of PPP media team, workers of the party had observed the foundation day in their respective districts as per instructions of the leadership.

Likewise, the PPP women wing also celebrated the foundation day of the party by cutting a cake and paying rich tributes to the leadership. PPP women wing provincial president Senator Rubina Khalid, general secretary Shazia Tehmas and others spoke on the occasion.

They said that workers should step up their efforts to ensure success of the candidate of the party in the upcoming general elections in the province.

They also spoke about the organisations and units of the party in different districts.

They said that sincere workers would be given a chance to come forward and play their role in strengthening of the party in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, PPP provincial secretary information Amjad Khan Afridi in a statement said that PPP had roots in people and it would continue the struggle initiated by its founding chairman for welfare and uplift of the downtrodden.
