PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency on Friday arrested two persons, including a customs inspector, for smuggling foreign currency.

A statement issued here said 100,000 US dollars were recovered from the accused. It added customs inspector Wajid and another person, Asfandyar were arrested from the foreign currency declaration point at the Torkham border crossing following leads shared by intelligence agencies.

“Wajid was deployed on the border, while Asfandyar would clear US dollars in connivance with the customs officials,” the statement said, adding Asfandyar was in contact with several agents.

The statement said Asfandyar would receive the foreign currency inside the customs office located at Torkham, and Rs50,000 was given in exchange for smuggling US dollars 100,000.

“The commission amount would be later handed over to the customs officials,” the statement said.
