TAXILA: Three people were killed in different incidents in the limits of Taxila and Attock on Sunday, police and hospital sources said.

In the first incident, the body of a man in his 40s was recovered from under a bridge located on GT Road in the limits of the Taxila police station in the early hours of Sunday. Police sources said that the dead man seemed to be a drug addict who died due to cold weather.

In the second incident, a construction worker died after receiving an electric shock in Kamra village within the limits of Hazro police station. Police sources said that Kashif was working on the roof of an under-construction house when he accidentally received an electric shock and died on the spot.

Separately, a toddler drowned in a drainage line in the limits of Pindigheb police station. Police said that the two-and-a-half-year-old son of Mohammad Waqas, a local shopkeeper’s son, went out of the house to play with his friends when he accidentally slipped in the drainage line and drowned.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old man was arrested for attempting to assault a seven-year-old girl in village Shahrah-i-Saadullah in the limits of Fatehjang police station on Sunday, police sources said.

The victim’s father reported that his seven-year-old daughter went to a nearby house to learn the recitation of the Holy Quran from a woman.

He said that, however, nobody else was at home besides the teacher’s father-in-law, who attempted to assault her. A case was registered under sections 377-B and 376-III of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the accused, and further investigation was launched.

In another incident, a sum of Rs 0.33 million was imposed on violators for overcharging and violating axle load management. Besides, 28 vehicles were impounded for charging commuters exorbitant fares during November in Attock.

This was disclosed by Secretary District Road Transport Authority (DRT) Attock Zaheer Ahmad Khan while briefing the newsmen about the authority’s action against vehicles involved in violating the official rate list and causing smog in the district on Sunday.
