KARACHI: Terming the criticism against the Election Commission of Pakistan ‘an attack on national institution’, the Pakistan Peoples Party on Monday lashed out at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for deliberately creating controversies before the next general elections.

Speaking at a press conference at Bilawal House, PPP-Karachi president Saeed Ghani said that the MQM-P was not different from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in attacking national institutions.

He was of the view that the MQM-P had been criticising the ECP only to pressurise the constitutional body before the elections. “The MQM-P knows well it’s going to lose the elections badly. So this campaign, against national institutions, is a kind of pre-emptive move from the party for face-saving after the elections.”

He said the PML-N had all of a sudden woken up to change the course of electoral history in Sindh only on a ‘particular agenda’.

Mr Ghani also welcomed former MQM lawmaker Shiraz Waheed on joining the PPP.
